Critique evening

The critique evening on the 2nd of April was a great success, with a very good number of club members bringing prints and digital images for discussion; so much so, that there were almost too many to show and discuss in one evening!

One of the longer discussions focussed on Ray Grace showing us some before and after images, which started by showing the image as it came from the camera, and then various stages to get a finished image.

One such technique which Ray used was to create a kaleidoscope effect from part of an image; Ray has kindly created a tutorial which is available on the tutorial page, or directly here.

Day out: International Centre for Birds of Prey

The International Centre for Birds of Prey near Newent was the destination of our recent club day out. With fantastic weather and a good turn-out of club members, and enjoyable day out was had photographing birds of prey while tethered, in cages, or during one of several flying demonstrations held throughout the day. I’m sure that many of the members will have plenty of photos of blue sky, or blurred birds from the flying demonstrations, however I’m sure we’ll see some stunning images in up-coming competitions!

Discussion Evening

After a slightly chaotic start, with non-functioning laptops, and calibration, the club enjoyed an evening discussing the winning 3 images from each bi-monthly competition last year, both for projected images and prints. Especially useful for the newer (potential) members of the club who were able to see a variety of winning images.

Retrospective

Many of us young(ish!) folk don’t remember slides as a medium for displaying images, so it was fascinating to see many of the slides that some of the club members had managed to unearth, not to mention seeing some of our club members looking somewhat more youthful! A big thank you to everyone who brought along their slides to show to the club.

The Italian job!

A rare Friday evening outing on the 24th of February saw a good number of club members turn out for a very enjoyable meal at the Italian restaurant La Passione in Chipping Sodbury. The food was wonderful, and the company made the evening a true delight, and a good time was had by all. Mike Wescott, the New Members Host, organised the evening – many thanks Mike!
